![]() ![]() Triche’s job as a teacher was to get students who enrolled late caught up to speed so they could join the main class in the program, and in this role, she taught baton, tap, and her personal favorite, ballet.Īround the age of 15, Triche started teaching in Mount Airy before she even had a driver’s license. Quickly after starting at Dorminy’s, Triche discovered a second passion that would walk hand-in-hand with dance – teaching. ![]() At Dorminy’s she started with ballet, and then moved on to tap and baton – all dance types that she would eventually teach at her own dance studio in King. Garner to encourage the young Triche to pursue dance, and in doing so propelled her down a path that would not only shape the rest of her life, but the lives of many.Īround the age of seven, Triche was enrolled at Dorminy’s Dance Studios in Winston-Salem where she was a student for 10 years, graduating from Dorminy’s the same year that she graduated from South Stokes High School in 1966. “Apparently, I padded my part a little bit I did more than I was supposed to be doing.” It was the padding that prompted Mrs. At a May Day program at King Elementary school, Triche gave her debut performance as a rabbit in a costume that her mother made for her. “My second-grade teacher, Jessie Garner, who was also my Sunday school teacher, told my parents that she thought it would be a good idea if I took dance,” remembered Triche. ![]() As an educator that has touched the lives of generations of Stokes County residents, Triche herself was inspired by one of her own teachers who encouraged her to pursue dancing. It is here in Stokes County that she has remained for the majority of her life.
